It started functioning from the academic year 2017. Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhagalpur is a joint venture of Govt. of India (50%), Govt. of Bihar (35%) and BELTRON(15%). The Institute started its first academic session from 1st August 2017. Bhagalpur College of Engineering (BCE) had provided the buildings to IIIT Bhagalpur in its campus. They were renovated and logistics were provided by IIIT Bhagalpur

Online applications are invited from Indian nationals (UR, EWS, SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwD) for the post of Assistant Professor in the different departments of the Institute, namely Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechatronics & Automation Engineering and Basic Sciences and Humanities (Mathematics) under 4 tier flexible faculty cadre structure. For the Departments which are not having any vacancy, movement in higher Academic Grade Pay (AGP) or cadre shall be carried out as per specified selection process but it will be restricted to only for the serving faculty of the Institute.

The duly completed application form, along with duly self-attested supporting documents, such as the self-attested copies of relevant testimonials, certificates, enclosures, must reach the office of Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhagalpur, Sabour, Bhagalpur, Bihar, India-813210 latest by 05/03/2024; 5:00 PM failing which their candidature will not be considered.
Applicants, who are in employment of Government/Govt. Undertaking/ Autonomous Body, must send their application through proper channel. Reservation policy for appointments in the institutions of national importance as per Government of India norms will be applicable.
