🏫 ABOUT INSTITUTION

महात्मा गांधी के सपनों के भारत में एक सपना राष्ट्रभाषा के रूप में हिंदी को प्रतिष्ठित करने का भी था। उन्होंने कहा था कि राष्ट्रभाषा के बिना कोई भी राष्ट्र गूँगा हो जाता है। नागपुर में आयोजित प्रथम विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन (10-14 जनवरी,1975) में यह प्रस्ताव पारित किया गया था कि संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघ में हिंदी को आधिकारिक भाषा के रूप में स्थान दिया जाए तथा एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय हिंदी विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना की जाय जिसका मुख्यालय वर्धा में हो। अगस्त,1976 में मॉरीशस में आयोजित द्वितीय विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन में यह तय किया गया कि मॉरीशस में एक विश्व हिंदी केंद्र की स्थापना की जाए जो सारे विश्व में हिंदी की गतिविधियों का समन्वय कर सके। चतुर्थ विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन (दिसम्बर-1993) के बाद विश्व हिंदी सचिवालय की स्थापना मॉरीशस में हुई और भारत में एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय हिंदी विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना को मूर्त रूप देने की आवश्यकता समझी गयी। यह संभव हुआ वर्ष 1997 में- जब भारत की संसद द्वारा एक अधिनियम पारित करके महात्मा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय हिंदी विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना राष्ट्रपिता की कर्मभूमि वर्धा में की गयी। इस विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना से भारतेंदु बाबू हरिश्चंद्र की एक लालसा भी पूरी हुई जो उनके मन-मस्तिष्क में छायी रही थी। वह लालसा थी ‘अपने उद्योग से एक शुद्ध हिंदी की यूनिवर्सिटी स्थापित करना’।
