The Biju Patnaik University of Technology ( BPUT ), Orissa, with its head-quarters in Rourkela came into being in November 2002 through an act of the Government. The main objective of instituting the University was to ensure a high quality of students coming out of the technical colleges through a common curriculum and uniform evaluation. Today, the University has 137 colleges, both constituent and affiliated, with around 100,000 students. The disciplines include engineering and architecture, business management, computer studies and pharmacy. Several of these offer both undergraduate and post graduate studies.

Professor: Pay Scale Rs- 1,44, 200-2,18,200 at Pay Level-14 as per Odisha Revised scale of Pay (for Teachers of Engineering College/ Degree level Technical Institutions/ Universities) Rules, 2019 with DA & other allowances as admissible from time to time (relevant to pre-revised scale of Rs. 37,400-67,000 + AGP Rs 10,000 of Govt of Odisha for the University/institute).
Associate Professor: Pay Scale : Rs 1,31,400 – 2,17,100 at Pay Level-13A as per Odisha Revised Scale of Pay (for Teachers of Engineering College/ Degree level Technical Institutions/ Universities) Rules, 2019 with DA & other allowances as admissible from time to time (relevant to pre-revised scale of Rs. 37,400-67,000 + AGP Rs.9,000 of Govt, of Odisha for the University/Institute).
Assistant Professor: Pay Scale (Assistant Professor): Rs. 57,700 – 1,82,400 at Pay Level-10 as per Odisha Revised Scale of Pay (for Teachers of Engineering College/ Degree level Technical Institutions /Universities) Rules, 2019 with DA & other allowances as admissible from time to time (relevant to pre-revised scale of Rs. 15,600-39,100 + AGP Rs.6 000 of Govt of Odisha for the University/Institute).
